Individual Creative & Active Therapy for Children and Teenagers in Guelph, Ontario

My expertise in child and youth learning stems from my background as an Elementary Teacher in Ontario public schools. Your young person's social, emotional and intellectual needs, strengths and challenges are all important to me.

During family consultation sessions, we can discuss what supports may best help your child or teenager feel seen and heard, begin to heal and develop new skills to cope with difficulties. It can be overwhelming or confusing to know how to best support your child. We can make a plan together and find the resources needed.

During our sessions we'll be playing, learning, and growing a safe and positive adult and child relationship together. Doing activities such as puzzles, making bracelets, drawing, throwing balls, listening to music or building, can help focus a child and sometimes motivates them to share their questions and concerns.

We'll explore how young people are in their relationships and learn some social learning related terms to make ideas more concrete. We'll look at how each young person learns best, what sparks joy for them and what may stress them out. Using experiencial learning, we may explore how different brains learn, how to manage feelings (both big and small), and tackle the changes that happen with their bodies.

Most importantly, they won't be alone in thier fears, thoughts, stresses and sadness. We'll work on a relationship where these are listened too and supported.

    Family support and consultation

Acknowledging how important the adults our in our childrens life and identity development is important for the therapy process. With our ever changing society, new technologies, added stresses and convienences, our family and community relationships have changed. Personally, I often find it hard to keep up with and know how to best parent my kids.

We can come together and share our worries, stresses, ask questions and answer questions about how you can best support your child with where they are now and with deep consideration for where you, the parent(s) or caregivers are in your life. We can have the hard conversations of what the future may look like and look at navigating those sometimes hard truths together. I know from my experience of parenting two very different children and working with children in schools; relationships with young people are powerful, ever changing and require patience and skills. Let's keep learning together!
